Tuesday, May 05, 2009 at 2:43 pm

ELLSWORTH — An Otis man despondent over a breakup was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital April 20 after he shot himself in the chest, the Maine State Police reported. The man was treated for his injuries and released.

Assault

Police are investigating an assault reported by a Trenton man April 22. The assault allegedly occurred outside an apartment building in Trenton.

Training

Troopers Greg Burns and Tom Pickering participated in “active shooter training” in Calais. The program was an initiative of the Calais Police Department.

The training is designed to teach officers from many agencies how to respond when arriving at a call where there is someone shooting inside a building, said Lt. Chris Coleman. This was refresher training and beneficial for officers from different agencies to train together.

Other Maine State Police officers attended the Calais Police Department training, as did Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and federal agencies.

Arrests and Summonses

Matthew Peasley, 21, Otis, bail violation, protection order violation.
