Bucks Try For Two Falls Short As Crusaders Win

Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:43 am

BANGOR — The Bucksport Golden Bucks lost a 7-6 squeaker to the John Bapst Crusaders in football action on Friday.

Defense was the name of the game for both teams as the Crusaders foiled Bucksport’s try for a two-point conversion to escape with the win.

After a scoreless first half, both teams got on the scoreboard in the third period with the 5-1 Crusaders striking first.

Early in the period, quarterback Jordan Charpentier threw a pass down the left sideline to Andrew Catlin for a 58-yard touchdown, and Mark Dieuveuil booted the extra point for a 7-0 John Bapst lead.

The Bucksport defense set up the only score for the Golden Bucks when a Dieuveuil field goal attempt was blocked and Chris Powell took the ball 80 yards for a touchdown.

But the Golden Bucks opted to go for the lead and quarterback Mike Cummings’ pass attempt for two extra points was knocked down.

The 3-3 Golden Bucks are slated to host the Mount View Mustangs Friday at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Field.
