BUCKSPORT — Ellsworth Eagle freshman Aleta Looker and junior Stephen Kirby captured top individual honors and led the Eagle boys and girls to team wins in the annual Hancock County Cross-Country Championships on Friday.

In the boys’ varsity race, Kirby led for most of the way with junior Taylor Lee of the Sumner Tigers just seconds behind him.

But Kirby made his lead stand up, besting Lee by five seconds at the finish with a winning time — and course record — of 17 minutes and 16 seconds.

Rounding out the top five were junior Blake Pattengale of Ellsworth in 17:39, sophomore Brandon Wade of Sumner in 17:41 and senior Neal Anderson of Ellsworth in 17:58.

In the girls’ varsity race, Looker pulled away from senior teammate Brianne Dunn over the final quarter of a mile on the 3-mile course to finish with a time of 19 minutes and 53 seconds.

Dunn crossed the line in 20:12 and was followed by three Mount Desert Island Trojans: sophomore Malia Demers in 21:53, freshman Nora Hubbell in 22:09 and freshman Olivia Erickson in 22:12.

The Ellsworth boys dominated in the junior varsity competition with six runners, led by winning freshman Brayden Beardsley in 18:20, placing in the top 10.

In the girls’ JV race, the MDI girls swept the first places, led by winning freshman Emma Soucek in 13:38, for a perfect team score of 15.

Following are the complete varsity team results:
