MOUNT DESERT — The Acadia Triathalon drew dozens of participants to the northern end of Great Long Pond on Saturday – some decked out in the highest of high-tech gear, others, not so much.

The race, an MDI Lions Club fund-raiser, included a 4.1-mile run, a 13-mile bike race and a 4-mile canoe/kayak segment, in and around the Somesville area.

Bar Harbor women took the top three spots in the women’s division. Michelle Wheeler was the top finisher with 30:49.1 in the run, 49:27.9 on the bike and 47:27.2 in the boat for a combined time of 2:07:44.28. Karen Roper finished second with 31:24.0 in the run, 49:21.0 on the bike and 51:01.1 in the boat; and in third was Jessica Roper with 28:07.6 in the run, 46:44.0 on the bike and 57:03.1 in the boat.

In the men’s division, Jeff Dubis of Fort Kent won with a run time of 27:10.9, a bike time of 37.17.7 and a boat time of 38:38.1 for a combined time of 1:43:06.8. In second was Michael Olsen of Otter Creek with 27:09.0 in the run, 39:29.4 on the bike and 38:39.1 in the boat; and finishing third was Dane Kane of Mount Desert with 26:01.2 in the run, 39:14.1 on the bike and 40:25.8 in the boat.

In the team divisions, in which a different person can tackle each leg of the race, the MDI Y’s Y-Not team finished first for Business Team with Ashley Stanton running in 29:29.2, Richard Baldare on the bike in 32:06.3 and Mark Schoon in the boat in 36:04.6. They were followed by PCHC from Bangor with Whitney Brydon running in 36:38.8, Jeff Sands on the bike in 41.11.9 and the two of them together in the boat in 41:21.4. Finishing third was the National Park Canoe team with Sam Johnson in all three legs, running in 33:24.5, biking in 55:01.9 and boating in 56:37.7.
