EHS, GSA Golfers Are PVC Runners-up

LINCOLN — The Ellsworth Eagles and George Stevens Academy Eagles emerged as runners-up in their divisions in last week’s Penobscot Valley Conference team golf championships played at Jato Highlands.

Presque Isle, with a score of 334, Ellsworth, Foxcroft Academy at 347 and Mattanawcook Academy at 352 advanced to the state team championship tournament, which will be held at the Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro on Saturday, Oct. 9, starting at 10 a.m.

In Class C, the GSA Eagles finished with a score of 356, well behind the winning Houlton Shiretowners, who carded a 313.

The Penobscot Valley Howlers were the third and final team qualifying for the state Class C tournament at 361.

Five Hancock County players also qualified for the state individual championship tournament.

Connor Morey of the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners came in at 75, just one stroke back of leader Gaige Flewelling of Presque Isle.

Greg Martin of Ellsworth finished tied for third with a 76, Jasper Adam of the GSA Eagles scored an 81, Sam Grindle of DI-Stonington an 82 and Ben Walls of the Mount Desert Island Trojans an 84.

They will be competing at the Natanis course on Saturday, Oct. 16, starting at 10 a.m.
