Curts Wins at Manchester

ELLSWORTH — When it comes to running cross-country, freshman Dan Curts of the Ellsworth Eagles is quickly making a name for himself.

Curts traveled with the Ellsworth Eagles to the 35th Manchester Invitational Cross-Country Classic in New Hampshire last weekend and came home as the freshman boys’ champion.

In a field of 203 runners in the two-mile race, Curts crossed the finish line in 11 minutes and 28 seconds, besting his nearest competitor by 21 seconds.

Ellsworth’s group of freshmen runners placed sixth among the 22 teams in the competition.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Frank King, 37th in 13:00; Patrick McKay, 41st in 13:04; Brayden Beardsley, 54th in 13:22; and Robert Looker, 144th in 14:54.

On the girls’ side, freshman Aleta Looker opted to run in the 3.1-mile girls’ small schools varsity race and turned in a 12th place finish in 21:24.

In the boys’ varsity competition, Stephen Kirby led Ellsworth runners with 44th place in 18:34.

The Eagle boys were 11th among 33 teams and the Eagle girls placed 14th among 22 teams.
