BAR HARBOR — Dan Curts, Aleta Looker and Brianne Dunn of the Ellsworth Eagles all turned in top-10 finishes in Saturday’s annual Mount Desert Island Trojan Relays as the fall high school cross-country season got under way.

Curts placed fourth with an individual time of 10:07 in his 1.82-mile leg of the relay course in the boys’ competition.

He trailed indvidual winner Caleb Chapman of the Caribou Vikings by just 18 seconds as Chapman turned in a time of 9:49.

In the girls’ competition, Looker was sixth in 12:14 and Dunn was 10th in 12:35.

In all, teams from 11 schools were represented in the competition. In addition to Caribou, Ellsworth and host MDI, they included Sumner, Bucksport, York, Presque Isle, Mattanawcook Academy, Old Town, John Bapst and Hermon.

In the mixed relay team competition, Ellsworth’s foursome of Dunn, Hayley White, Lyle Stephenson and Blake Pattengale placed second with a combined time of 48:16, just five seconds off the winning time recorded by the Caribou Vikings.

A Caribou foursome also won the boys’ relay competition in 41:43, with the Ellsworth foursome of Curts, Neal Anderson, Stephen Kirby and Derek Hawes placing third in 43:37.

York won the girls’ relays with the Trojan foursome of Amelia Kief, Maggie Painter, Paige Klausky and Malia Demers finishing third in 52:17.

Finishing behind Looker and Dunn in the girls’ competition for Ellsworth were White, 24th in 13:20; Jamie Ford, 28th in 13:26; Mallory Nightingale, 38th in 14:05; Lauren Barkhouse, 46th in 14:32; Mariah Libby, 77th in 16:52; Olivia Mora, 78th in 16:56; and Kelsey Leighton, 81st in 17:15.

For the host Trojan girls, Painter and Nora Hubbell led the way, placing 11th and 12th with identical times of 12:36.

Behind them were Demers 14th in 12:40; Kailyn Russell, 25th in 13:21; Klausky, 27th in 13:24; Dominique Hessert, 30th in 13:35; and Kief, 31st in 13:36.

That tight pack — just 60 seconds separated their top seven runners — could bode well for the Trojans as the season unfolds.

Several other MDI girls also competed: Emma Soucek, 39th in 14:06; Olivia Erickson, 42nd in 14:19; Rachel McMinimy, 49th in 14:54; Erin Connery, 57th in 15:12; Lucy Soucek, 59th in 15:17; Skye Howard, 82nd in 17:23; and Rebecca Planchart, 83rd in 17:45.

For the Bucksport Golden Bucks, Sina Fehr was 34th in 13:51, followed by Avalon Langevin, 58th in 15:16; Brittney Eberhardt, 87th in 18:10; and Katie Bridges, 90th in 18:25.

Following Curts in the Anderson, 16th in 11:00; Kirby, 19th in 11:02; Stephenson, 24th in 11:10; Pattengale, 27th in 11:11; Kody Holmes, 32nd in 11:20; Hawes, 38th in 11:27; Robert Looker, 47th in 11:41; Tyler O’Grady, 51st in 11:48; Dustin Murphy, 54th in 11:53; Caleb Mora, 69th in 12:14; Patrick McKay, 73rd in 12:32; Frank King, 82nd in 12:50; Dean Donovan, 86th in 12:52; Ben Walton, 92nd in 13:08; Aaron Scillia, 108th in 13:40; Aiden Bothwell, 113th in 13:50; Matt Fendl, 118th in 14:02; Nate Dorr, 121st in 14:17; Ethan Archer, 122nd in 14:18; Nate Stephenson, 142nd in 16:18; and Zackery Lewis, 146th in 17:25.

For the Sumner Tigers, Kurt Hand was 18th and Taylor Lee 20th with identical times of 11:02, followed by Brandon Wade, 33rd in 11:24, and John Sandiego, 95th in 13:16.

For the host Trojan boys, Sam Swann placed 46th in 11:41, followed by Jon Sproule, 50th in 11:45; Sam Sproule, 68th in 12:11; Ross Johnston, 74th in 12:35; Andy Gallup, 79th in 12:46; Ransom Burgess, 85th in 12:51; Norman Haynes, 89th in 13:01; Chris Heel, 100th in 13:19; Chris Shottenkirk, 102nd in 13:27; and Seamus O’Brien, 145th in 16:56.

For Bucksport, Mitchell Small finished 103rd in 13:30. He was followed by Eric Davis, 117th in 13:59; Austin Sargent, 127th in 14:43; and Sam Pitchford, 136th in 15:21.

Sumner (Hand, Wade, Sandiego and Lee), ninth in 46:45; Ellsworth (O’Grady, Mora, Murphy and Holmes), 10th in 47:16; MDI (Jon Sproule, Sam Sproule, Johnston and Swann), 12th in 48:13; Ellsworth (Donovan, McKay, King and Looker), 14th in 49:54; Bucksport (Sargent, Pitchford, Davis and Small), 24th in 57:34; and Ellsworth (Scillia, Lewis, Nate Stephenson and Dorr), 27th in 1:01:41.

GIRLS

MDI (Russell, Hessert, Erickson and Hubbell), sixth in 53:51; Ellsworth (Barkhouse, Nightingale, Looker and Ford), seventh in 54:17; Bucksport (Fehr, Langevin, Bridges and Eberhardt), 13th in 1:05:43.

MIXED

MDI (Emma Soucek, Lucy Soucek, Gallup and Heel), 11th in 55:28; MDI (Connery, McMinimy, Burgess and Haynes), 13th in 55:58; Ellsworth (Libby, Ford, Archer and Bothwell), 15th in 59:39; Ellsworth (Olivia Mora, Fendl, Leighton and Walton), 18th in 1:01:22; and MDI (Howard, Planchart, Shottenkirk and O’Brien), 20th in 1:05:31.
