The heat has been intense and makes it hard to keep in mind that school starts in less than a week! Just a reminder to everyone that the buses will be out and making frequent stops and there will be lots of little ones waiting by the roadside, so please slow down and be aware.
Gin Randolph, a well known-basket artist, offered a few basket weaving classes this month. Of recent, this correspondent’s children and niece attended one of her classes and had a wonderful time. They each learned the beginning steps of the art of basket weaving and each made a beautiful piece of art to cherish at home! As my son nicely stated, “Billy’s not the only guy who can make a basket in town now.” For those adults who felt left out — no worries! Gin will be offering a three-week class for adults starting Sept. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Franklin Community Center. If you have ever wanted to make your own, or learn about the art of basket weaving, please call Gin for registration and more information at 565-2007.
Gin and Don Randolph have also been busy this summer hosting a car show and swap meet! Don would like to thank all of those who supported the 1st Annual Car Show and Swap Meet on Aug. 1. Hot rods, street rods and antique cars stopped by, as well as some nice bikes. There were over 45 in attendance. Car parts were bought and sold, the weather was great and the Grist Mill Gang entertained everyone with bluegrass music. They would also like to thank the 4-H for manning the food tent, and hopefully they sold lots for tickets to the steer raffle. For those of you who missed out on the fun this year, not to worry because Don hopes to see even more cars and bikes as well as swap meet buyers and sellers the first Sunday in August 2011.
