Bucks Beat Crusaders in Eight

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 11:12 am

BUCKSPORT — It took them eight innings to do it but the Bucksport Golden Bucks stayed in the hunt for an Eastern Maine title with a 4-3 win over the upset-minded Crusaders on Saturday.

It was the Crusaders who struck first, notching two runs when Ryan Carr singled, Bill Wetherbee walked and both scored on a double by Chris Hammond.

Bucksport evened the score at 2-2 in the third inning on two Crusader errors, a single by Anthony Hamlin and a sacrifice fly by Tyler French.

The Golden Bucks took the lead in the fourth inning on a single by Tyler McAllian, a bunt single by Billy DeRedin and an RBI double by Mike Cummings.

The Crusaders knotted the score at 3-3 in the fifth inning on a double by Ryan Carr and a single by Wetherbee.

That ended the scoring until the bottom of the eighth inning when Eldridge got things started for Bucksport with a double off the fence in right-center field.

McAllian was intentionally walked by Crusader pitcher Jason McBurnie, but DeRedin delivered for the Bucks, lining a single over second base to drive in Eldridge with the winning run.

French went the distance on the mound for Bucksport, scattering five hits and striking out eight batters.

McAllian finished with a double and a single and DeRedin and Hamlin each singled twice for the Golden Bucks.
