Ellsworth, MDI, DI-Stonington Advance in Girls’ Tennis Playoffs

The Ellsworth Eagles and the Mount Desert Island Trojans  advanced to the Eastern Maine Class B girls’ tennis semifinals on Wednesday.

Number four Ellsworth downed the number five Waterville Purple Panthers 3-2, getting wins from Ashley Harding at second singles, Ina Maloney at third singles and Rachel Ball and Caitlin Maloney at first doubles.

Number two MDI defeated the number seven John Bapst Crusaders 4-1, getting wins from Jessica Swanson at second singles, Julia Christie at third singles, Hannah Worcester and Annika Sampson at first doubles and Mia Musetti and Caroline Brown at second doubles.

In Class D preliminary playoff action on Wednesday, the seventh-ranked Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners rolled to a 5-0 win over the number 10 Schenck Wolverines with wins from Chelsea Ciomei at first singles, Esther Adams at second singles, Meaghan Robinson at third singles, Layla Eaton and Cortney Trundy at first doubles and Paige Rollins and Joanne Parker by forfeit at second doubles.
