Third-ranked Ellsworth Improves Record to 9-2

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Eagles added a couple of wins to their record this week and still slipped one place — to third — in the Eastern Maine Class B baseball standings.

With a 9-2 record, the Eagles currently trail number two Presque Isle by about half a point and are six points in front of the fourth-ranked Camden Hills Windjammers in the tight Class B standings as of Wednesday.

Also very much in post-season playoff contention are the 8-4 Bucksport Golden Bucks in fifth place and the 8-6 Mount Desert Island Trojans, currently ranked sixth in Class B.

In Class C, the 4-9 Sumner Tigers and the 4-9-1 George Stevens Academy Eagles are outside the playoff picture and time is running out.

The Tigers currently are ranked 13th and the Eagles are 14th with less than a week to go.

In Class D, the 7-6 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners are solidly in the playoff picture with a third-place ranking.
