Plohr, Dunn and Kanu Are Double Winners

ELLSWORTH — The Hampden Broncos swept to boys’ and girls’ victories in outdoor track and field meets on Tuesday at Del Luce Stadium.

In boys’ action, it was Hampden with 194 points and the Mount Desert Island Trojans close behind with 181, while the George Stevens Academy Eagles were third with 59, the Ellsworth Eagles fourth with 51 and the Sumner Tigers tied for seventh with 16.

GSA got a pair of wins from Ben Plohr, in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.42 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.52 seconds.

River Plouffe Vogel won the 3,200 meter run in 10:50.71 and Daniel Weinberg was first in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 11.5 inches for the Eagles.

For MDI, Travis Norwood won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches; Taylor Brown won the discus with a throw of 113 feet, 4.5 inches; and Ben Cummings won the pole vault, clearing 13 feet.

Ellsworth’s Ben Chapman won the 1,600-meter run in 4:30.66.

In the girls’ meet, it was Hampden the winner with 233 points with MDI second (144), Ellsworth third (108), GSA fourth (45) and Sumner eighth (4).

For MDI, Destiny Kanu won the 100-meter dash in 13.37 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.18 seconds.

Also for the Trojans, Malia Demers won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.16; Augusta Blanford was first in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.77 seconds; Kailyn Russell won the 800-meter run in 2:36.04; and Chelsea Curran won the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.

The MDI foursome of Emily Lewis, Bailey Burr, Blanford and Kanu won the four-by-100-meter relay in 54.32 seconds.

For Ellsworth, Brianne Dunn won the 1,600-meter run in 5:53.06 and the 3,200-meter run in 13:01.66, and Abby Homer was first in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 6 inches.

The Eagle foursome of Kalyn Jackson, Rosie Vachon, Dunn and Darien Lewis also won the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:34.75.
