ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth Eagle righthander Andrew Hodge had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning before allowing four hits and three runs in the fifth and sixth innings on Thursday.

But Ellsworth was in command throughout after scoring three runs in the first inning on a triple by Brad Folmer, an RBI single by Cote Card, an RBI double by Hodge and an RBI single by Dakota Jewett.

Ellsworth added two more in the second inning on a double by Folmer, an RBI single by Card, a single by Ross Saunders and an RBI groundout by Hodge.

The Eagles put four insurance runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth on six walks and a couple of Mattanawcook errors.

In the top of the fifth, the Lynx had the bases loaded with nobody out and one run in, said Ellsworth coach Dana Smith.

“You could feel the momentum going their way,” he said, “but John Carlin made a diving catch in right field and got up and threw a guy out tagging up at third, and that put an end to it.”

Carlin also came on in relief of Hodge in the seventh and struck out the side after giving up a hit and two walks to load the bases.
