Mariners Cruise to Victory Over Monks

CASTINE — Attacker Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, CT) scored five goals and dished out six assists on the afternoon as the Mariners from Maine Maritime defeated the St. Joseph’s College Monks 22-6 in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse quarterfinal game played Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

CASTINE — Attacker Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, CT) scored five goals and dished out six assists on the afternoon as the Mariners from Maine Maritime defeated the St. Joseph’s College Monks 22-6 in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse quarterfinal game played Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

The Mariners jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on goals by Dennis St. Pierre (South Berwick), Chris Keiley (Holliston, MA) and two by Disalvo. The Mariners exploded for eight more markers in the second quarter and took a 12-2 lead into the half.

St. Joe’s scored the first goal of the third quarter on an Elliot LaMarre (Raymond) goal but was quickly countered by a Keiley (six goals) tally that put the score at 13-3. The Monks scored again but gave up the next five markers and trailed 18-4 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Mariners tacked on four more goals in the fourth while the Monks added two to finish off the scoring at 22-6. With the win, the Mariners will advance to the semi finals of the NAC Playoffs.

Andrew DiSalvo finished the day with 11 points for MMA while Chris Keiley added eight points on six goals and two assists. Todd Murphy (Middlesex, VT) was outstanding in the win collecting two goals and six assists for eight points. Tom Houle (Manchester, NH) collected three goals in the victory. Erik Milles (Bangor) collected his first collegiate win for the Mariners making 15 saves.

Paul Dolewa (Saco) led the Monks with three goals and an assist while Benson Pasquarello (Kennebunk) and Alexander Stone (Lewiston) each finished with two points. Christopher Driscoll (Saco) took the loss for the Monks.

The Mariners will travel to play Mount Ida in semi-final action on Wednesday.
