
BLUE HILL — The Ellsworth and GSA Eagles matched basket for basket from start to finish Saturday as GSA eked out a 41-40 win.
The first half ended with Ellsworth on top 23-22 and no more than four points ever separated the two teams in the second half.
The teams went into the final two minutes tied at 36-all.
Ellsworth inched ahead 39-36 when Morgan Clement banked a shot off the glass and Paige Martin hit one of two free throws.
But GSA’s Stevie Theoharidis was fouled on a shot with 58 seconds to go and netted both free throws to cut the Ellsworth lead to 39-38.
Brittany Stubbs hit the front end of a one-and-one but missed the second with 45 seconds to go, and 14 seconds later, GSA’s India Frazier knotted the score at 40-all with two free throws.
Seconds later, GSA got the ball back and took a time out with 11 seconds remaining.
Frazier drew a one-and-one foul with six seconds on the clock and hit her first shot to provide the winning margin for GSA.
Theoharidis led all scorers with 19 points and Frazier added 13 for GSA.
Martin led Ellsworth with 12 points and Kalyn Jackson chipped in with eight.
