BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School wrestling team hosted its final meet of the year on Jan. 23 against Bangor, Brewer, Old Town, Woodland, and Belfast. The Trojans’ sole team win came against Woodland, 48-18.

The Trojans came out flat early on in the meet, dropping every match against the Brewer Witches except for forfeits.

“Unfortunately when you are young, some of the things that you work on in practice, you don’t do in matches. In the Brewer match we didn’t execute,” said Trojans head coach Chip Dugans. “It is sports. You can practice everything but if you don’t execute it doesn’t matter. That was probably the biggest thing.”

The first individual win for the Trojans came from Will Shepard when he took Richard York from Belfast to the mat. Shepard would be the only Trojan to list two wins; he also pinned Tim Linton from Woodland.

The only other wins that MDI individuals would get would be in the last match of the day against Old Town.

“It was like one of those games where you wish you didn’t have to play the first half and you could just come out in the second half,” Coach Dugans said.
