Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 12:22 pm

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A customer made off with cash Monday after performing a sleight-of-hand trick at a Main Street convenience store.

A man went into Dead River Convenience at about 2:30 p.m. and laid $35 cash on the counter to pay for gasoline he had purchased. As the clerk was making change, she became distracted. Taking advantage of the situation, the man grabbed the money and left the store.

The man, however, may now wish his magician skills extended to invisibility — he was caught on the store’s security camera and police are investigating.

A Sullivan woman was arrested Jan. 12 after police received a report of a woman running down the road while being chased by a man.

A young seal attracted plenty of attention Saturday afternoon at the Northeast Harbor Marina.

Police were called to the marina after receiving information that a group of people was concerned about the health of the seal, which was lying on a boat ramp.

The marine mammal research group, Allied Whale, was called. A researcher determined the seal was “a little skinny” but otherwise healthy. As the crowd watched, the animal rolled off the ramp and swam away.

According to police, a woman called at 2 a.m. and reported that she and her boyfriend had been forced to strip by another female, who had accused them of stealing $100 from her. The alleged assault reportedly occurred one hour before the report was made.

Darrell J. White, 30, of Trenton, was arrested early Sunday on Route 3 on a charge of operating while under the influence (OUI).
