BAR HARBOR — The Trojans came within a whisker of upsetting the Presque Isle Wildcats on Monday.
The game started as an even tussle, with the teams matching point for point until early in the second period when Presque Isle began creeping away from the Trojans.
Three consecutive three-pointers by Travis Dyer boosted the Wildcats’ scoring effort, and by the time the halftime buzzer sounded, Presque Isle held a 24-16 lead.
Both teams became very stingy on defense in the third period with MDI netting eight points and Presque Isle only four.
But the scoring ramped back up in the fourth period with each team getting 18 points. Alex Tuttle threw in all 10 of his points for the Wildcats in the closing period.
Nate Chisholm once again led MDI in scoring with nine points, including five from the foul line. Ben Walls added seven points with one three-pointer, and Jayson Burke also had seven points, five of them coming from the free throw line.
The Trojans trailed the once-beaten Wildcats by a single point with 42 seconds to go, but Presque Isle edged away for the 46-42 victory.
