CASTINE — Led by Ryan O'Connell's (Ipswich, MA) 20 points, the Bowdoin bench outscored Maine Maritime's 43-15 to lead the Polar Bear men's basketball team to a 79-55 win on Tuesday evening. Bowdoin improves to 5-1 overall this season while Maine Maritime falls to 2-5 this season.

Bowdoin held a 49-21 halftime lead which proved to be too much for the Mariners to overcome despite outscoring the Polar Bears 34-30 in the second half. Bowdoin held a 24-17 advantage midway through the first stanza, but the visitors went on a 25-4 run to end the half putting the home team in a big hole.

The Polar Bears got 16 points from Paul Sewell (Glastonbury, CT) and 11 points from Justin Nowell (Cos Cob, CT) while Randy DeFeo (Ridgewood, NJ) added 5 points, 4 rebounds, and a team high 6 assists.

Paul Campbell (Camden) and Joe MulCahy (Plainville, MA) were the lone Mariners in double digits with 16 points and 10 points respectively. Sam Bell (Calais) led the Mariners with 6 assists.

The Mariners will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to UMaine Presque Isle to participate in the Star City Classic.
