GSA Escapes Orono

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, December 09, 2009 at 4:06 pm

ORONO — In a seesaw battle with the Orono Red Riots, the George Stevens Academy Eagles came out on the winning end of a 53-49 score on Monday.

“It was close all the way until the last four or five minutes,” said GSA coach Dwayne Carter. “At that point, we stepped it up defensively and we were up by 11 with three minutes to go.

“We made some mistakes at the end but they were good learning mistakes,” said Carter. “It was good to win on the road.”

Elias Springer led the Eagles with 17 points, Nick Doolittle added 12 and Tom Crowe chipped in with nine.

“We rebounded pretty well,” said Carter, “and we had great bench play.”
