County Girls Positioning For Playoffs

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 4:30 pm

ELLSWORTH — After losing their first three games, the Mount Desert Island Trojan girls have been coming on strong.

With victories this week over Old Town, Mattanawcook and Bucksport, the Trojans extended their winning streak to five games and have climbed into post-season playoff contention with a number nine ranking in the most recent Eastern Maine Class B standings.

The George Stevens Academy Eagles and the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners also are very much in playoff contention at the moment.

The GSA girls downed Ellsworth and DI-Stonington this week while losing to the Washington Academy Raiders and are ranked sixth in Class C with a 5-3 record.

The 4-3-2 Mariners are ranked eighth in Class D.

The 3-5 Ellsworth Eagles currently are ranked 14th and the 0-7-1 Bucksport Golden Bucks are 15th among the 18 Class B teams, while the 0-7-0 Sumner Tigers are last in Class C.
