BROOKLIN—Nancy Garfield Rice, 75, died Jan. 28, 2010, in Blue Hill, shortly after suffering a stroke. Nancy was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Syracuse, N.Y., daughter of the late Gladys Sprague Garfield and Richard Milton Garfield.

YARMOUTH—Mary Alice Whitworth, 77, a longtime Orono resident, passed away Jan. 29, 2010, in the loving company of her family at Bay Square. She was born Mary Litchfield, in 1932, in Ellsworth, along with her twin sister.

BAR HARBOR — One of Mount Desert Island’s most beloved physicians, Dr. L.W. Cooper, died Jan. 29 at the hospital he devoted nearly all his professional life to, Mount Desert Island Hospital here. He was 83 years old.

GOULDSBORO—Chief Master Sergeant John F. Mullins, United States Air Force Retired, 62, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 26, 2010, at his home. He was born June 9, 1947, in Birmingham, Ala., the son of Louie and Manena (Szclarz) Mullins.
