The seventh annual Bar Harbor Jazz Festival kicked off five days of music with a performance Wednesday night on the village green by tenor saxophonist Bill McHenry. The festival ends Sunday with a 9 p.m. concert by Container, a group led by the Danish bassist Nils Davidsen.

BAR HARBOR — Just as the Christmas spirit doesn’t quite kick in until the Acadia Choral has performed its holiday concert, the summer season here isn’t really complete until the Mount Desert Summer Chorale has filled St. Saviour’s Church with its glorious voices.

The Bar Harbor Town Band, one of Maine’s oldest continually performing municipal musical groups, has been entertaining summer visitors and residents alike for more than 100 years.

ELLSWORTH — If the July 31 concert by hometown girl Jude Johnstone at The Grand was intended to spark interest in her upcoming CD, “Quiet Girl,” it was a success.
