ELLSWORTH — Poet David Gitin trusts in the economy of words. Since the publication of his first book, “Guitar Against the Wall,” nearly 40 years ago, the West Coast writer has made a career of cataloguing moments, often through brief, haiku-like missives.

BAR HARBOR — The 60 or so people who attended a live performance by blue collar comedian Juston McKinney were treated to an hour-and-45-minute show during which Mr. McKinney joked, “If someone would have told me years ago that I would end up performing in front of 60 people at the Bar Harbor Club…I would have killed myself.

BAR HARBOR — The Native American Festival, now in its second decade, is scheduled this year for Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. The festival market is organized by the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance and the Abbe Museum.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — At the Wendell Gilley Museum of Bird Carving in Southwest Harbor, admission will be “free as a bird” from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday s during July and August.
