PORTLAND — Sophomore Mark White (Oakville, Ontario) and junior Kyle Baker (Kennebunk) each scored four goals as the University of Southern Maine men's lacrosse team rolled past Maine Maritime Academy, 18-2, in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

In addition to his four goals, Baker also dished out two assists for a game-high six points.  White also had one assist to finish with five points.  Rookie Dylan Bousquet-Smith (Bowdoinham, Maine) had three goals and an assist, junior Kayle Hamilton (Buxton) contributed two goals and two assists, and sophomore Marc Stannard (Wilder, Vt.) chipped in with a goal and a game-high three assists.

Sophomores Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.) and Alex Hermes (Fallingstown, Pa.) scored for the Mariners.  Junior Brian Corain (Berwick) had an assist.

Both sides employed two goalies in the game.  For Southern Maine, sophomore Kyle Dussault (Lewiston) made nine saves before giving way to senior JJ Marcigliano (Westbrook) who recorded one stop in the final six minutes.  Junior Erik Milles (Bangor) started for MMA stopping eight shots over the first 37 minutes.  Freshman Gavin Cote (Biddeford) came on to make five saves.

The Huskies raced out to a 5-0 lead in the opening quarter as White (three goals), Baker and Hamilton found the net.  Baker's second goal of the game made it 6-0 early in the second period before Houle got the Mariners on the board.  The Huskies would get three more scores before halftime to lead comfortably at intermission 9-1.

USM put the game out of reach in the third quarter outscoring MMA 6-1.  Baker had two scores and an assist in the period.

Maine Maritime returns to Portland Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
