TREMONT — Singer Jimmy Buffett’s M36 daysailer is undergoing cosmetic redesign at the Morris Yacht service yard in Bass Harbor this winter. The boat will be finished with a new aft-facing navigation station, air conditioning, and a faux-finish paint job on its carbon fiber mast, meant to mimic the look of spruce. The boatyard has begun several more extensive projects in recent months, starting with a 1975, 42-foot Nautor Swan 44 with a deck in need of repair. The boat (named Freebird) will be the recipient of a new teak deck, electronics system (including a new reconfigured breaker panel and a substantial rewire), and completely reconfigured companionway, allowing for easy access below deck.

“She’s a beautiful boat about to be in much better condition,” said Chris Murray, service general manager at Morris Yachts.

The yard is also working on Packet, a P.E. Luke aluminum boat built in Boothbay Harbor, as well as many other service projects this winter.
