CASTINE — The Lady Mariner Volleyball team beat the University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals 3-1 in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday evening at Margaret Smith Gymnasium. Chelsea Ward (Homer, AK) led the Lady Mariners with 16 kills and collected 16 digs in the win.

MMA won the first two games of the match (25-21 and 25-16) before the Bengals captured game three 25-16. MMA finished off the match, beating UMFK 25-22 in game four to take the match 3-1 and improve to 13-9 on the season.

Ward led the Lady Mariners in kills with 16 while Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, CO) finished the night with 11. Lauren Sakahara (Bellevue, WA) had a team high 26 digs in the match while sophomore setter Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, MD) collected 40 assists. Freshman middle blocker Nicole Osborne (Calais) played well, collecting six kills and six blocks in the victory.

The Bengals were led by senior opposite hitter Kumiko Chow (Vancouver, BC) who collected 16 kills, 19 digs and three blocks. Anabell Chang (Palm Springs, CA) had 10 kills and 14 digs while Savannah Kainani Ash (Waialua, HI) had a team high 25 assists. The loss drops the Bengals to 10-3 on the season.
