CASTINE — The Maine Maritime Academy Lady Mariner soccer team defeated the University of Maine at Machias Clippers 3-0 in a non-conference match-up at Ritchie Field on Wednesday evening. MMA outshot UMaine Machias 22 to 3 in the contest.

MMA defender Jess Stahl (Bowdoin) broke a 0-0 tie in the 60th minute when she stole the ball from a UMaine Machias midfielder and drove the ball over the keepers reach from 20 yards out. The goal was MMA's first of the season.

The Lady Mariners tacked on their second goal of the match in the 73rd minute as Emily Brogden (Union) cleaned up a loose ball inside the box and tucked it into the net for the 2-0 lead.

MMA ended the scoring in the 84th minute when Stahl scored her second tally of the match on a lofted shot from the left side that landed in the far right corner of the net.

Lacey Jackson (York, PA) recorded the win for MMA while making 2 saves on 3 shots. Stephanie Wunderley took the loss for the Clippers making 5 saves on 22 shots. MMA improves to 1-1-1 on the year while UMaine Machias falls to 2-3 on the year.
